What to Post on Your Wedding Website | Content Guide + Checklist

Build Wedding Website

Hi friends!

Wedding websites are the perfect way to keep guests up-to-date with real-time information. As we are in a more tech-based world, this can even act as a replacement for enclosure cards in our invitations suites or give them important pre-invite information!

I’m excited to share all you need to know about creating a wedding website — like when to launch it, how to communicate it, and what information to include! Also, keep scrolling for a free content guide download!

When to Launch Your Wedding Website

This is personal preference for some, but I say it’s important to have your website published once you send out save the dates. This puts your website on your guests’ radar for pre-invite information. You can then use it as a tool to communicate pre-wedding events like showers and engagement parties and for any changing circumstances (thanks COVID!)

My Favorite Wedding Website Platforms

There are a few popular wedding website platforms available for free. These include WeddingWire.com, Zola.com, and TheKnot.com. All of these are quite user friendly and easy to navigate. They will provide you with various templates to choose from, suggested pages, and premade layouts.

Personally, my favorite wedding website and registry host is Zola! The templates are beautiful, their registry interface was the most comprehensive, and building my wedding website was an easy step by step process.

How to Share Your Website with Guests

Since you’ll be launching your website with your save the date, it’s perfect to incorporate your website into its design! A simple line on your save the date, along with your typical information like name, date, and location will let your guests know you have a website.

Why a Detailed Wedding Website is Key

Wedding websites are an amazing communication tool that I often see underutilized. This is one of the first places your guests will check for information if they have a question. Alternatively, if they text you asking a question, instead of rewriting the venue’s address for the 354th time, you can direct them to your wedding website. It will take a tremendous amount of stress off of you and your future spouse, allowing you to focus on the details of wedding planning!

Initial Wedding Website Launch

When you first create and launch your wedding website, you don’t have to include ALL your wedding details. You probably don’t have them planned and they’re not important to your guests at this time. When you first share your wedding website on your save the dates about 8-11 months before the big day, here are some things to include:

  • Wedding Date

  • Wedding Ceremony Location (City, State)

  • Wedding Reception Location (City, State)

  • COVID-19 precautions

  • Your love story

  • A photo gallery of you and your future hubs

  • Registry and/or registry link

  • A few FAQ’s

  • Contact information of your wedding planner

Full wedding website launch

Once you get about 3-4 months away from the wedding you can start to populate more information on your website. Definitely have your website fully populated with all important information by the time you send out invitations about three months out. When you send your invitations include an enclosure card directing your guests directly to your website for details like accommodations, travel, or rsvps. Here is a list of the most important information to include on your wedding website in addition to the information above:

  • Full address of ceremony

  • Full address of reception

  • Schedule of events

  • Any pre- or post-wedding events

  • Accommodations

  • Wedding party and fun facts

  • Things to do

  • More specific FAQs

I’ve put together a complete and free detailed checklist of all the important details to include on your wedding website and when to publish them! This guide also includes some common answers to FAQ’s for guests, tips for writing your love story, and some additional details you may want to include.

Having a detailed wedding website will save you much stress leading up to the wedding. It will help minimize the amount of questions you and your future hubs will get, especially if you let guests know that the website exists ahead of time! Be sure to include your wedding website on your save the dates, shower invitations, and as a part of your wedding invitation suite!

Until next time!
Sam
